Research and Planning: Genre Conventions

-->

Nightmare on Elm Street (horror)
The conventions of this horror poster, is shown through the colors, which are dark and red. Red represents the blood, which the horror film contains throughout, it is also a representation of the gore. You can also see that it is a horror film by the medium close up of the actor, made to look gruesome yet hidden by the lighting and the dark colors, to create an unknowing suspense.

-->
The Notebook (romance)
It is obvious that this genre is romance shown by the passion shared by each of the actors on the front of the poster. The rain is also a typical trait of a romance, and is used on the cover to show what the genre is. The tag line of this film also makes it apparent that it is romance “behind every great love is a great story”.

-->
Grown ups (comedy)
The conventions of this comedy poster emphasize the comedy by having the actors being shown like they’re having fun as appose to a horror, which would be more serious. The colors on this poster are much lighter; the light blue shows that it will be a happy film, as does the dark blue for the title.

-->
 Seven (thriller)
On this poster there is a much greater element of mystery, this is also shown through the actors facial expressions, presented through the close up, which also draws more attention. The font of the poster, also expresses thriller as it looks as though it is scratched in and isn’t crisp or clean. There is also dark lighting and shadowing used, once again showing mystery a scary first impression.
