Research and Planning: Social Networking Feedback for my Magazine

I send both these contacts on my blackberry messenger a picture of my magazine with the question "What changes do you think could be made in order to make this magazine better?" These were the answers I received from both contacts, both non media students.

I took this into consideration yet realised I can't really add more colour as it would distort the 3 colour rule and make the magazine look quite untidy and unprofessional, and instead I have chosen that I will alter some of the colour positioning. The masthead (close up) I don't think should be altered as I think it is that, that needs to attract the most attention, therefore needs to be the bigger. I will play around 'the retribution' and add a background and then see what it looks like.

After reading this I decided that I have space to add a few more coverlines and then can put additional information underneath them to tell them what this will include and what else will be inside.

Research and Planning: Social Networking feedback for poster

I sent both these contacts on Blackberry messenger a picture of my film poster with the question "What do you think could be done in order to improve this poster?" These were the answers I received of both contacts.

Despite this being the audience feedback I feel this could be something to be avoided, as I would like to make my poster look more conglomerate, and I think having reviews makes it look more independent. However I may add a star rating in the next poster session, therefore sticking to what the audience would like to see.

The Retribution is the same font on all 3 documents, however I shall make the font a bit bolder on photoshop by either distorting the text or making it a different font size, in order to give the audience what they want.

Research and Planning: Rough draft for green screen.

This is just a rough draft of what we are planning to create on a photoshop document to be placed onto the back of the green screen of the news reader, to make it appear much more professional and more realistic.

Research and Planning: Newsreader Green Screen

This is the unedited footage of the news reading section which is going to be placed in our trailer, once the footage has been edited and put in the trailer, a green screen design will be placed over the green screen to make it similar to a real news reading studio. Sound may also be added which will be similar to the rest of the trailer, meaning it will remain slow paced and also quite creepy.

Research and Planning: Magazine Amendments

The amendments made to this magazine, include the alignment of the whole magazine, I added guidelines in to the magazine so that I was sure that everyone on the magazine was in line and looked that way, this included the cover lines and the masthead. I also have altered the font of the cover lines and the size of the font on the cover lines.

Research and Planning: Poster to Date

The amendments made to this poster include the website which I have added positioned underneath the coming soon caption. I have changed the font of this website as well as the colour, to make it look like an addition to the poster, plus it would attract more attention and therefore make the potential film become more viral. I have also changed the font size of the tagline "no sweeter revenge" I increased the size by two sizes, I just wanted to make the poster look a bit more compact and decrease some of the surrounding space, which is the same reason why I have made the picture a bit bigger, yet kept focus using the shift key.

Research and Planning: Magazine to date

On the magazine I firstly altered the masthead as I thought it was a bit too plain and bland for a masthead, therefore I decided to change the colour and positioning of the word UP. I switched it from a vertical position to horizontal, I then changed the colour to white, so that it stuck to the 3 colour rule. After researching some more magazines I realised that the tagline for my magazine appeared to be quite oversized, I then decided to decrease the size and place it along the letter P. I altered the cover lines, I firstly deleted one which I didn't think was worded correctly, and instead I replaced it with one big cover line which includes the title of the film "The Retribution" which was firstly positioned at the top of the page, yet this has been replaced with "inside the greatest films special." With all the alterations I have made I have been careful to make sure that they stick to the 3 colour rule and that they all relate to either my film, or the film industry in some way.

Research and Planning: Up to date Film Magazine

The additions to my my magazine I have added include the picture, which began as a medium long shot however I altered the picture so the eyes and face of the picture could be fully seen. I also cropped some of the background of the picture and positioned it at the top as the picture wasn't the correct length for what I wanted, I then merged these layers so that they was part of the same picture. I am not completely happy with  the picture as a result of the coverline positioning and the photo being placed behind the masthead, I will make these alterations on my next film magazine session.

Research and Planning: Up to date Film Poster

The alterations I have made to this poster include the picture, which to begin with was a medium close up, which I then used the fixed lighting tool on Photoshop to create this effect. At the moment it isn't complete, still to do include additions to the typical poster conventions, I also would like to add a background picture with decreased opacity, again used on Photoshop, just to avoid the poster looking too plain.

Research and Planning: Creating Sound

After playing around with a few materials and seeing what sounds would be most suiting to my trailer. I have found a few that I am definitely going to be using, however they will have to be recorded in college as I don't have the software to record from home.

I was using this wine glass to create a sound which appeared to suit the horror sound well, I will record this sound and it add it to the beginning of the trailer and potentially have it running throughout.

This is a picture of a slamming door, the sound from my back door when slammed is really loud and creates a really dramatic effect, I therefore recorded this and will upload in college and add to my trailer.

Research and Planning: Potential Pictures for Film Documents

In each of these pictures taken the location may be removed, however the ones which I have chosen to use both have clear backgrounds meaning this doesn't greatly impact me. If I choose to use another picture, I will use the magnetic lasso tool and then add a filter to the background to make it look more like a horror theme.

Research and Planning: TV Static

This TV Static from youtube is going to be used at the end of the trailer after the news report as we think it would give a good effect and add to the horror aspect as a whole.

Research and Planning: Making and Recreating sound

Research and Planning: Magazine Update

The amendments I have made on this magazine is the addition of the three taglines and the repositioning of the barcode. The taglines I have added are all connected to the taglines which I mentioned within my prezi. At the moment I am not happy with the positioning of everything on my magazine and once I add the picture I will reposition everything in order to make the front cover of the magazine much more desirable and suiting to the expectations of a film magazine.

Research and Planning: Sound Research

This is the trailer for the film Wrong Turn. From 10 seconds onwards there is a noise that can be heard in the background, it has a very sinister sound and suits very well with the horror genre. I suspect this sound could have been made using a glass, I will use this sound at the beginning of my trailer as I think it would suit well with the narrative and what is happening throughout. Other sounds used, include a screeching sound when something scary appears on the screen, I originally tried to create this on the first draft of our film when we filmed the computer screen. This effect is good as it draws your attention to the more important parts of the trailer and increases the horror genre as it is more likely to make you jump.

This trailer takes a different approach to the conventional horror trailer as it begins with a police siren which instantly indicates that something ins't right and questions our judgement on what is going to happen, which I think is important in a horror film, because, if you know what's coming within a horror movie you will lose interest quickly and therefore the overall effect won't be achieved. However, it then changes to Mama's and Papa's - California Dreaming which is a happy upbeat song. It then causes you to fall into a false sense of security. What I like about this soundtrack is that midway through it stops and jitters on a scary face while the track is still being played, implying that the narrative is going to break the peace. I could use this in my trailer, as it isn't obvious there is going to be a possession, meaning I could use a happy soundtrack to cause the viewer to be drawn in, only to end up scaring them more.

This is the trailer for Dead Silence. There is almost a lack of sound within this trailer, as it begins with diegetic music playing from a radio, it then stops and jitters similar to The Hills Have Eyes trailer, however this trailer doesn't allow you to fall into a false sense of security as the horror comes instantly after the music has stopped playing. In regards to this I prefer the 2nd trailer as I think that the horror effect is much greater. However, on this trailer I do like when she goes into the bedroom the lack of music almost builds the tension much higher than without music, I don't think I will use this effect in my trailer, despite liking the idea.

Research and Planning: Script for News reader

This is a picture of the rough copy of the scrip we have chosen, in print the script is...

Breaking News, tragedy has struck in a suburb of Great Manchester, when three young girls are found dead, whilst one till remains missing. Police have advised people from the local area to stay indoors until further notice.

Research and Planning: News reader Audition

This is the audition of a potential actor for our trailer reading out the script which we have written for our news reading section of our trailer.

Research and Planning: Film Poster up to date

This is the editing to the poster which I have made, which now includes the official tagline for the film "No Sweeter Revenge" I have also altered the size of the font for the tagline on the poster simply to make it stand out a little more, this tagline has been chosen to offer the audience a deeper insight into what should be expected from our film. Yet to be done is the picture for the magazine which i think is going to be a medium close up or a close up, and I will also try to see what it looks like with images inside the eyes of the possessed girl, this is just an initial idea yet I do think the overall effect will look good.

Research and Planning: Unedited trailer

This is the trailer before we uploaded the video onto the computer and cut out the unnecessary sections that aren't needed for our trailer, there is still sections to be filmed which we have decided to do on the 13th of January in order to have our trailer completed before the deadline.

Research and Planning: Meeting after Christmas

I have discussed with my group what else needs to be done in order to keep to date with the research and planning. We have decided that the next filming date will be the 13th and on the 15th we will be taking pictures of our stars of the trailer, to use for our magazine and film posters.

Research and Planning: Correlations between 3 documents

Between all three of my productions, meaning the poster, magazine and the trailer, I want them all too have obvious links. Meaning, I will be careful what I include within each of the documents.

Poster - The poster will contain a horror picture preferably at either a close up or a medium close up, I will add effects using photoshop to emphasise the horror genre. It will stick to the 3 colour rule which will also link into the magazine, it will contain red as I want there to be connotations of blood and death involved. The poster will also use the font Istillknow from dafont.com for the title of the film "The Retribution."

Magazine - The magazine will contain 3 primary colours being black, red and white. I have chosen these colours purposely as I want the black to represent the darkness within the film that the cover is going to be representing and the red is chosen to represent blood and death, the white has been chosen as a contrast to the colours, not only to break up the colour use within both the magazine and the poster but I always want to emphasise to lack of purity within this trailer, as it is predominantly about murder and possession. The magazine will also contain the title of the film used in the same font as is used on the poster, the possessed girl will also appear on the front of the magazine, at a medium close up, I want it  to show how she is obviously possessed.

Trailer - The trailer should contain the same star as is used on the magazine and the poster. The trailer is going to surround the narrative that she has been possessed and she is getting her revenge on the girls for making her feel like such an outsider, this will be conveyed on the poster and magazine as she is going to positioned alone on the two media productions. The same tagline should appear on all three documents also, to draw clear connections between all three and make it obvious that they are the same film.
