Evaluation Question Four
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Research and Planning
Blogger was used this year as a way of documenting my work, similar to the way it was used in my foundation portfolio. It was used as a way to help me document my progress and keep up with what was needed. All my research and planning went on my blogger account and from this I was capable of being much more flexible with my range of research, I also become much more independent by making personal posts in regard to my given job role, being sound.
The internet was used throughout the whole time I spent on my research and planning, whether it be researching potential genres at the beginning of the project to using youtube to look at existing trailers for inspiration.
I used this program when it came to writing things such as scripts and questionnaire. I also used this for the shot lists and risk assessments. My skills in regards to Microsoft word are of a high level as a result of having many years of experience with the program.
This program was used as a way to discuss all the potential production names in one place, I also added the names of our group as well as reasoning behind my decision for the potential production names.
This was used to produce my publication plan, which once again I had some existing experience from due to my foundation portfolio. I had to list all the tasks which I had to complete and when I was planning on completing these tasks.
On ishowu I did podcasts as a way to keep the moderator and myself up to the date with what had been done on my blog so far, I also used Ishowu to show the moderator a short period of time of which I was working on prezi, garage band and blogger.
Powerpoint was only briefly used during my research and planning, it was much more prominent when it came to my evaluation. However, it was still helpful when I was documenting my results from a questionnaire.
Garage band was used on my research and planning as a result of me having to practice due to the fact that I was a newcomer to the program. I then created new sounds on garage band and uploaded the sound, as well as a screenshot to my research and planning.
Solvr is a program for which I posed them a question, in my case being potential horror film names, I then collective came up with many potential names with my group and listed them below the question, I discussed these ideas and decided on The Retribution.
On Prezi this year I created a publication plan for my film magazine, meaning that when it would come to the production of my magazine I would have a rough idea of what the coverlines would be for example. This came quite easy to me as a result of my existing experience that I had from my foundation portfolio.
These social networking sites were all used from either audience feedback or research in regards to the horror genre. I used these programs to mainly pose questions to non media students as a way to collect some extra feedback and advice that may have helped with my production.
Youtube was a way in which I found myself looking for existing trailers that would impact or influence the work in which I was going to create. I found trailers such as Wrong Turn and House at the end of the Street, I would then strip these trailers down for specific detail which would impact my focus media form of sound.
Construction
This camera was also used in my first year for very similar reasons, including for locations and head shots of potential actors that we could have used for our trailer. They was also used for the auditions of the actors, including Becky who was the star of our trailer. The skills I had learned in my first year meant that I was qualified to use a camera like this with ease and could obtain what I needed quite quickly.
Garage Band was used when it came to finalizing the finished score for my trailer, I was prepared for this as a result of the practice I had gained during my practice in research and planning. I had taken the practice clip which I had created as I thought it fitted great with the trailer, I the had to import an MP3 of a glass sound which I myself had created, I placed this over the top of the sound and then added this sound to my trailer.
The SLR camera was used for the pictures which I had to take including the images for the rough draft of the green screen and the images for my poster and magazine. I had great knowledge of this camera as it was primarily the main piece of technology used in my first year. This therefore meant I was able to adjust certain features to work to my advantages for example the use of flash, resulting in a better quality photo.
Photoshop was used for the complete construction of both the magazine and the poster, as a result of using this in my first year for all of my media products it meant that I was able to take advantage of all the tools, including ones which I hadn't previously used as I was much more confident, including the pin light effect, used on both my poster and magazine. This was also used to create the green screen which would be placed behind the newsreader clip in our trailer.
The mini DV camcorder is what was used this year to record the whole of our trailer. These weren't really difficult to use despite the lack of experience with them, it was simply putting a tape in and pressing record. A tripod was also used during certain parts of our trailer, however with it being horror it wasn't used a lot as we wanted to give the frantic effect of a handheld camera.
Imovie was used for the complete construction of my teaser trailer. It was a piece of software which was completely new to me meaning I did struggle to begin with to use the program to its full ability. This was also used to add the sound which I had created to the teaser trailer, it took a little time for me to get used to the program but once I did, I found that it was quite simple and easy.
