Research and Planning: Film Magazine Analysis 1

- This film magazine is a horror specific film magazine, we can see this as it says at the left of the cover, that is it the "worldwide no1 horror entertainment magazine.

- Magazines have a 3 colour scheme, this magazine uses red blue and white, this colours are a good choice as they relate to the horror genre, blue has it represents the calm which usually comes before the action, red to represent the death and white to convey the purity which is sometimes presented as a way to trick the audience.

- The image on the magazine cover is a medium close up, clearly showing the blood covered girl who's facial expressions conveys that of a haunted girl. It is obvious that the genre of this magazine and the cover is horror due to the blood and straight facial expression of the girl.

- The masthead of the magazine is positioned in a typical place which other mastheads are usually positioned, at the top of the page. The masthead is red, good choice as red is a presentation of death which is closely linked with horror films. It is also the largest of all the fonts which are on the front off the magazine cover.
- Ways in which are able to tell that this is a magazine and not a film poster are through these many conventions:
  • Bar Code
  • Website
  • Masthead
  • Stories included inside
  • The date and issue number
- Target audience for this film magazine would be great film lovers, and those which love the genre of horror and want to know about the films that they watch in depth. As it is predominantly a horror magazine, this suggests an older age range from 19+ and not children.
